The labyrinth of efficiency is a video installation in which I altered the classic Disney film Alice in Wonderland (1951) into a story where Alice is constantly seeking strategies to deal with lack of time in a contemporary daily life permeated with ‘goal-achieving’ and ‘efficiency’ oriented mentality.
In this video, Alice encounters several fantastic characters of the wonderland who give her advice and tips on how to manage her life better.
Derived from personal experiences as well as my interest in burnout syndrome and self-help culture, the work portrays a time management state of mind through a mixture of frustration, anxiety and endless aspirations.
The video projection is accompanied with dark color floor mats with the shape of arrows, rectangles, folder icons etc. which form a kind of flowchart. Flowcharts are common in self-help books and the image of them creates a feeling of order.
